Love Blinds Progression

posted February 10

New tutorial coming soon! Yayyy Check back for it. We had a snow day today so I am HAPPY as hell and using my time wisely. WHO ELSE HAD A SNOW DAY? Come on half of America had a snow day, so I know YOU DID TOO! :) yay for us!

So I’ve been working on this piece for quite some time now. A couple of days really but hey, I’ve never worked on a piece for that long! It’s kinda weird to say this but it’s the first time ever I’ve reached 100 layers in photoshop. Danggg haha. I don’t know about you guys…what is the highest number of layers you’ve ever used?
Anyway the piece is called “Love Blinds” and I’m only halfway finished with it. I lightly sketched over a picture and then kind of doodled over it. Still need some detailing to do with the neck area and arms and as well as the hair. The background will be last though, having issues with picking something good for that. Ahhhh! I made this using my bamboo CTL460 tablet which I bought a few days ago. It’s pretty much all completely handdrawn.

I kept the color scheme blue and red, didn’t want to overcrowd with colors or anything.

This is the reference image of Alexis Bledel I used:

I’m not the best at drawing but I would definitely like to get better and use drawn elements in my pieces from now on. I think it adds more personality in my opinion. Let me know of any suggestions/critiques you have of this piece. Thank you :)

  2. Haha wow thank you! It was pretty fun because I actually doodled like this in my notebook when I got bored in class (so very, very often!), so it was kind of like that but except on my computer. Will show a picture in another blog. :)

  7. Amazing! The most I ever got to was 50ish, which would be more like 70ish, but I merge layers a lot.

LUCKY. I live in South Texas. Meaning it’s 40 F here and we’re all shivering, but nowhere near snow.
