Revised tutorial!

posted December 24

Hello everyone! Sumaiya here, that one chick who does coding and backend and moral support stuff here at swimchick.net. Anyway, Jess and I are going through content and cleaning it up and generally trying to make things more accessible and search engine friendly. To that end, a new tutorial has been posted on Photoshop Brush Basics which is, to quote the excerpt:

A quick summary about how to make and install Photoshop brushes, as well as create brush sets and offer your brushes for download.

It’s a combination of the older tutorials we had on creating brushes and brush sets and offering them for download. I know this isn’t a new technique or graphic tutorial, but a) Jess told me I should post about it and b) I think you guys should get an example of the kind of work we’re trying to do right now. It’s partly the reason why there haven’t been as many new content updates. You can help us out by letting us know if there is duplicate/misplaced content or any tutorials that you think could be revisited and freshened up, or any other content in general. We’re working on getting previews and excerpts done for all the tutorials, so that can go without mention. :)

Thanks for sticking with swimchick.net through this; we really do appreciate it and are doing our best to give you high quality stuff—we just want to finish taking care of old stuff before moving on to the new.

  1. Sweet! Too bad it won’t be helpful for me since I don’t have PS, but it’s really cool you guys are updating! In a note to updating…when are the watercolor stamps brushes coming? I’ve been waiting too long! Please, thank you.

  2. Sumaiya and I were JUST talking about that. I will be adding them tonight in a nice little zipped folder. Check the brushes page in a few hours, they should be there :)

  3. Do you think you’ll ever make HTML/CSS tutorials? I’d love to know how to make website layouts. :)

  4. Great idea! I always want to make a website but the CSS/HTML kills me. All the sites only explain is how to “bold” text and not the actual layout coding, it’s so irritating.

  5. It’s possible we might start doing coding tutorials—either that or we’ll have resource posts with links to a bunch of good ones! For now, though, I’ll point out that most multi-column layouts are made with floats, including ours (and the same goes for horizontal navigation). Floatutorial provides a solid introduction to how floats work, and Tutorialtastic has tutorials on both a 2 column layout and horizontal navigation. (TT is also highly recommended for coding basics!)

  6. Thanks! I’ll check out those sites tomorrow. Eventually I’d like to be able to make layouts for different websites and possibly work for them or something. :) I intend on taking a few web/graphic design classes too, so I’m hoping that will help me learn too… >.<
